CHRONOLOGY

Closing months of 1898

Rajwantia, a widow, age 22, leaves her village Sakiepur in Ghazipur,  with her 3 year old son, Hanib, for the Natal Colony, South Africa.


February 1899


 

Rajwantia arrives in Natal, from the Port of Calcutta on board the ship, Umlazi XI, where she was indentured to Natal Government Railways Inc Railway Service.

10 August 1904


Rajwantia, age 27, returns to India with her son, Hanib, 8 years old, on board, The Pongola

From 1905 to 1943

Rajwantia returns to South Africa and begins the next stage of her life as Janaki Chetty, wife of businessman, R.B. Chetty.
